Greater Savings Account FAQs

  • What is a Greater Savings account?

A Greater Savings account is designed to help your money grow by paying a higher dividend rate when certain account requirements are met. Our Greater Savings account pairs with Greater Checking and rewards qualifying members with a higher APY on their savings. There’s no minimum deposit to open, no monthly maintenance fee, and no minimum balance required to qualify for the higher dividend rate.

  • Is there a minimum deposit to open Greater Savings?

No. Greater Savings has no minimum deposit to open and no monthly maintenance fee.

  • How does a Greater Savings account work?

Greater Savings accounts help your balance grow by paying dividends on the money you keep in the account. With this savings account, meeting the monthly qualifications on your paired Greater Checking account automatically qualifies your savings for the higher dividend rate. Dividends are compounded and credited monthly, allowing your earnings to become part of your balance and contribute to future growth.

  • What happens if I don’t meet the monthly requirements on my Greater Savings account?

Missing the monthly qualifications does not close your account or result in a monthly maintenance fee. Your Greater Checking and Greater Savings accounts remain free, and your Greater Savings balance still earns our base dividend rate. You can qualify for the higher rate again the following month by meeting all of the Greater Checking requirements for that monthly cycle.

  • How do I qualify for the higher dividend rate on a Greater Savings account?

To earn the higher dividend rate on Greater Savings, you need a Greater Checking account that meets its monthly qualifications. Before the close of business on the last business day of the month, at least 20 debit card purchases totaling $100 must post and settle, you must be enrolled in eStatements, and you must receive at least one direct deposit of $100 or more or make at least one payment through Greater Iowa bill pay from your Greater Checking account.

  • Can I have Greater Savings without Greater Checking?

The higher Greater Savings rate requires a qualifying Greater Checking account. Contact us to confirm account eligibility and available savings options if you don't want to open both accounts.

  • How do I open a Greater Savings account?

You can get started with a Greater Savings account by contacting our team, and you’ll need to pair the account with Greater Checking to be eligible for the higher dividend rate. There is no minimum deposit required to open Greater Savings and no monthly maintenance fee. Once your accounts are established, meeting the Greater Checking qualifications each month automatically qualifies Greater Savings for its higher dividend rate.

I’ve been with GICU for a little over a year now and I’m beyond impressed. Amazing staff at locations, accommodative, and super informative when explaining information I’m uneducated about!
