Michael Wahlin
Michael Wahlin has held leadership roles in investment management for over two decades. He currently serves as the Assistant Vice President of Investments for the Iowa State University Foundation, a private nonprofit dedicated to securing and stewarding gifts for Iowa State University. In this capacity, Wahlin is responsible for overseeing the foundation’s investment portfolio, valued at over $1.8 billion, and serves as the primary liaison to the foundation’s investment committee.
Wahlin joined the ISU Foundation in 2004 as the Controller, managing the accounting department and financial operations. He has contributed to numerous high-level projects, including campaign planning, enterprise risk management, crisis management, and strategic planning. Prior to his work with the foundation, Wahlin worked in public accounting with Grant Thornton LLP and in private industry for over 20 years. With a wealth of experience in finance, governance, and strategic decision-making, Michael brings valuable insight and leadership to the GICU Board. Wahlin has served in various volunteer capacities for several nonprofit organizations over the years, including serving on the Greater Iowa Credit Union’s board of directors since 2019. During the past six years, he has served in a variety of roles at GICU including Board Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Chair of the Credit/Asset Liability Committee, Chair of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Governance Committee and Corporate Giving Committee.
